A ceremonial-grade matcha from Uji in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan's most celebrated matcha-growing region. Grown from Yabukita and Gokou cultivars, shade-grown and stone-ground; smooth, umami-rich, and naturally sweet with a notably creamy texture and none of the bitterness found in lower grades.

Ceremonial Grade · Uji Kyoto Origin · Medium Caffeine · Ethical Tea Partnership

Why we like it

  • Uji in Kyoto is where Japan's most revered ceremonial matcha has been grown for centuries; the Yabukita and Gokou cultivars are specifically prized for their umami depth and natural sweetness
  • Noticeably creamier and smoother than everyday-grade matcha; reviewers who've tried multiple Japanese and US matcha brands consistently come back to this one
  • From the same supplier as our everyday Japanese matcha; if you've enjoyed that one and want to taste the ceremonial difference, this is the clearest comparison

Details

  • Maker: Culinary Teas
  • Origin: Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan · Yabukita and Gokou cultivars
  • Size: 30g sample, 30g tin, 4oz bag, or 8oz bag (16-20 cups per 1oz)
  • Best for: traditional whisking and drinking straight, matcha lattes, anyone ready to taste what Uji ceremonial matcha actually is

How to enjoy

Sift 1-2 teaspoons into a warmed bowl or cup. Add 2-3oz of 170-180°F water and whisk in a W or M motion for about 3 minutes until frothy. Drink straight to appreciate the umami and natural sweetness, or add milk for a latte. The creamy texture makes this one particularly good as a latte.

Ingredients

Ceremonial grade matcha green tea powder (Yabukita and Gokou cultivars, Uji, Kyoto, Japan).
